Happy New Year from Headland Collective by HEADLAND

…Somewhere in Jersey
The Wave of the Winter Awaits

NJ Keg Hunter is a new kind of event designed to celebrate the uniqueness of the New Jersey surf scene in the modern age. With massive swells that are here today and gone tomorrow, the time for a contest that can capture these moments and reward those surfers willing to take the plunge on the steepest, deepest Jersey kegs is here. Keg Hunter is an online contest that requires surfers to submit a video of an individual wave ridden during the course of the prime surf season in New Jersey and is brought to you by Last Wave Brewing Co.

The difference is, the people decide who takes the crown. We’ll host a party at the Asbury Lanes in April 2019 to showcase the best video submissions from the contest and celebrate the NJ surf community as a whole. The people in attendance will select the first ever NJ Keg Master—who will be awarded a Golden Keg trophy, $2,000 in cold, hard cash, and the chance to have their own beer made at Last Wave Brewing Co. The bar rises each year for surfing in New Jersey and it’s time to recognize and reward the men and women who are pushing the limits here on the east coast.

JIANCA LAZARUS // LIZ CLARK: SWELL // PATAGONIA by Christopher Labzda

Our very talented Jianca Lazarus had the opportunity of a lifetime to work on the book "Swell" for Patagonia, featuring the incredible Captain Liz Clark.

Embarking on a life of freedom and exploration that most only dream about, Liz Clark set sail for the South Pacific as captain of her 40-foot sailboat, Swell. More than 12 years and 20,000 miles later, she’s still out there. Sharing tales of wind, waves and the learnings that lie beyond the horizon, this 332-page book tells the story of Liz’s voyage in her own honest and open-hearted words. CHANGING TIDES FOUNDATION DISASTER RELIEF: CARIBBEAN FUNDRAISING FRIDAY OCTOBER 13th by Christopher Labzda

Changing Tides Foundation is set to host a Disaster Relief: Caribbean Fundraising and Press Tour in the New York Area on October 12 – 15th. The first fundraising event kicks off on October 13, at Tradesman Bar in Brooklyn from 9pm to midnight, where a selection of craft beer from Greenport HarborMontauk Brewing Company and Founders Brewing Co as well as other select libations and food by Speedy Romeo will directly benefit the disaster relief. This fundraiser will host an auction with an impressive combination of artwork and photography, donated by incredible artists such as Erin WelshJohnny PanessaScott SzegezkiMr. DViceEl Gran TocayoEmma Carascon, Michael AmorilloMelissa Hearns, CTF’s own Jianca Lazarus and many more, including an Alaia surfboard by Ben McBrein from FarmHaus. In addition, the Patagonia Bowery store will be putting up some raffle items at the event. The evening will then close out with a showing of Surfer’s Blood, a film by Patrick Trefz and Changing Tides Foundation’s own WOMP Bocas and Clean Mexi-Agua films documenting their work in Panama and Mexico respectively.

CTF DISASTER RELIEF: CARIBBEAN is aimed at providing aid and support for island communities in the Caribbean after the 2017 hurricane season ripped through, affecting millions of lives. All proceeds from the Caribbean Fundraising and Press Tour will directly benefit the CTF DISASTER RELIEF: CARIBBEAN project. Funds raised will provide materials necessary to address the immediate and specific needs of each individual island community, focusing on necessities: food, water; power, sanitary, hygienic, materials, and labor needed to rebuild these communities that were devastated by these unprecedented natural disasters. This project will focus on the smaller islands and communities where attention and relief efforts have been scarce, starting with Barbuda, Antigua and Dominica. Thereafter, CTF will extend their efforts to as many communities as they can reach throughout the entire Caribbean.  This project strategy will adapt as the needs that exist today which may be very different than those that will exist in 2 weeks or 2 months from now, therefore relief will vary based on necessity.

For Press Tour inquiries, please contact: info@changingtidesfoundation.org.

ABOUT CHANGING TIDES FOUNDATION

Changing Tides Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, that was born from the simple idea that the world would be a better place if we were all given the opportunity to give back. Established in 2016, by a group of female surfers and adventurers, we feel it is time to give something back to help others. We do this by teaming up with local organizations in global communities to address social, environmental, health and safety concerns depending on the needs of the specific location, because TOGETHER WE ARE BETTER.

Our mission is to bridge the gap between the traveler and our global partners and projects, paving a way for travelers to SERVE NATURALLY by facilitating their ability to have a life-changing experience while on their own journeys. By collaborating with eco-minded brands, we encourage travelers to ADVENTURE CONSCIOUSLY, leaving behind the smallest footprint possible while on their travels in order to preserve the beauty of the places visited.

Matt Paul / Faherty / Fall Catalog / Montauk by HEADLAND

Check out Matt Paul's recent collaboration with Faherty Brand.

Faherty creates clothing for life's great moments, the ones spent by the water, around a bonfire, catching waves or watching sunrises. It's what makes the morning commute, the boss you don't like, and the pile of work on your desk not so bad. Faherty designs clothing made from unique and sustainable fabrics, and develops close, personal relationships with manufacturers to craft high quality goods. You'll find them in one of the six shops around the country, be it in SoHo and West Village, NY; Boston and Nantucket, MA; or Malibu and Newport Beach, CA.

Mike and Alex grew up surfing in a beach town, where they couldn't find high quality clothing that reflected their casual lifestyle. After many years of weeding through surf shop clothing racks while admiring their dad's tailored Italian suits and vintage Hawaiian shirts, they decided to someday start their own clothing brand and the idea stuck.

Jianca Lazarus

Born in Johannesburg and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, Jianca Lazarus learned to surf at Glen Beach and picked up her first camera at 16. She combined the two at her home breaks, but also on adventures to Kommetjie and J-Bay - because any surf trip in South Africa is an adventure. South Africa was wild enough, but wanting further adventures, Jianca packed up moved to New York City when she was 17. Fresh out of high school and fresh off the boat, a girl with a funny accent in the big city, Jianca found work in the production side of the Film and Event industry in NYC.

Jianca landed like a leopard in New York, finding her feet pretty quickly and working on the production side of music events like The Village Voice Siren Music festival, and also numerous TV commercials and music videos. Established in New York and with plans to travel and shoot, Jianca chose to completely focus on shooting photography professionally in 2007.

With four group shows and Three solo shows under her belt, she now roams the world like a bedouin photographer, dividing her time between New York, Hawaii, along with quick trips to El Salvador and wherever else catches her fancy. Raised in the split culture of South Africa, Jianca is fascinated by the world's cultures on land and at sea, from deep water surfing in El Zonte to the dusty colorful streets in the township of Guguletu. Being a complete free spirit self- taught she captures vibrant dynamic use of color and the truth no matter how bad or good it can be and shows with clarity facets of life that the world often regard with blind eyes.

Jianca is also co-founder of the non-profit organization Changing Tides Foundation. For more information on CTF please check out the website www.Changingtidesfoundation.ORG
